Default E-prime with Nonvoilent Communication (NVC)

In the interest of better communication all around, I have made it a point to master these two languages. I envision clearing up the funk and fog of my thinking especially the prejudices I've held on to.

I figure others have experiences trying to learn a new language and have things to share.

You must learn to think in new ways to learn e-prime. You should think you way through it first. You can not just pick up a book and memorize it, that will not work. You must train your brain to think in e-prime then transfer it to speech and writing.

I thought and thought and still thinking and still unable to understand what can the above sentence really mean. Funk and Fog? went out of my head.

People hold on to predudices because of the ladder of inference they have climbed. This usually comes from their non verified or validated 'beliefs' their parents taught them as children and with these beliefs they made quick judgements which ultimately formed their decisions. Most of these decisions have grey areas which I would refer to as funk and fog. Authentic clarity comes about when you start to think in e-prime. This will automatically eliminate climbing the ladder of inference. Karen

Remember people you did not learn English in one day. Same holds true for e-prime.

Default E-prime practice and right speech

For lay-people, speech offers a great opportunity to practice. The four precepts of right speech, the precept cautioning against false speech, malicious speech, harsh speech, and useless speech gave a real boost to my awareness as a lay-person and businessman. Since awareness and wisdom had to come into the picture whenever I spoke, I had to apply them all day. Saying things you shouldn't say or speaking more than necessary brings a lot of agitation to the mind. The other extreme, complete silence, or not speaking up when useful or necessary also invites problems. One finds it difficult to apply right speech in the beginning; it takes practice. But if you practice every time you talk to someone, the mind will learn how to expand awareness, to understand what it should or should not say, and to know when best to talk. Or course you would make many mistakes. The mistakes will give you an opportunity to learn, to teach you to do better next time.

paraphrasing Sayadaw U Tejaniya, buddhist monk.
