Default The irony is that/Ironically (enough)

Lost in my own musings and after a bit of dabbling with E-Prime, I thought I could reword the following Standard English passage in (a) into an “acceptable” E-Prime passage in (b) as follows:

(a)“The irony is that Thoreau was in fact surprisingly well read in social and historical contexts [...]”
(b)“Ironically enough, Thoreau appeared surprisingly well read in social and historical contexts [...]”

Does (b) ever stand a chance of passing for an E-Prime statement? Thank you for your response.

Yes, you have made a clear, concise e-prime statement. What uncertainty did you have with this sentence?

Karen, thank you very much! Any uncertainty that I might have stems from not speaking English as a first language. Or "not speaking English like a NSE does." As an ESL speaker I greatly depend on, or at most pattern what English I learned so far after, native English speakers' natural ability to communicate in his or her own mother tongue. Did I put my foot in my mouth here?

Not at all. Glad to have you back on line. This weekend I felt alone on this site. I had hoped you and the rest of the e-primers take out time to write some thoughts. PS. I find your English near perfect......

Yes, I don't speak English as a first-language myself.People speak many different languages in India, yet, we use English as a means of communicating in schools and colleges. It is a common language that we can use to communicate here.Yet, the concept of e-prime has not yet arrived here.I hope to speak and write in English as well as communicate my thoughts clearly, just like Marcio.I thought this site might help me do that.
